Long Term Radon Testing(Recommended by Health Canada)
The long term radon test is our most recommended and most popular test. This test is performed for a period of no less then 3 months and no more then 12 months. Since the radon concentration inside a home varies over time, measurements gathered over a longer period of time are generally considered to give a more accurate picture of the radon exposure. Health Canada recommends that homes be tested for a minimum of three months, ideally during the winter months as the radon concentrations are usually representative at this time.
Short Term Radon Testing
Short term tests are performed for a period of 2-7 days. They are designed to get a quick look at your radon levels. Short term testing is not an accurate test to provide any definite results or to base any decisions on. If a short term test has been done and the levels are found high, we recommend a long term test to follow up. Short term testing must be done with "closed house" status and should be done in the fall and winter months. Short term tests are ideal for real estate testing as they generally require quick results.
Radon Water Test
Before testing for radon in your residential water supply, we recommend testing the air. A certified measurement professional can help you decide if the water should be tested for radon.
DIY Kits
We sell DIY kits in our online store. They are fairly simple to use and accurate. This is a cheaper solution to having your home tested for radon by a professional technician. We always recommend to have a professional perform the tests, this way they can explain the results clearly and provide further advice on how to manage with radon if the levels are high. If you chose to buy one of our DIY kits we can provide assistance free of charge via telephone or email.
Digital Monitors
Digital monitors are available and work well. Most of these devices are not approved for testing purposes. They are primarily used for monitoring. Perfect for the home owner who wants peace of mind knowing he can monitor the radon levels in his home. Most will last several years, some up to 10 with no calibration required. We recommend the Corentium Monitor. Details are available in our online store. They are a little more expensive but in the long run worth the investment.
